Islamabad: A meeting of the joint committee of the Pakistan-France PERIDOT Research Programme (Phase-2), headed by the executive director of Higher Education Commission Arshad Ali, was organized  at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat on Monday.

The joint committee simultaneously approved 9 joint research proposals for funding. The French team was led by Cooperation and the Cultural Affairs Counselor André de Bussy. Mainly the programme is targeted to develop latest scientific and technological cooperation among Pakistani and French higher education institutions or research laboratories by supporting the movement of researchers.

It is being executed in Pakistan by Higher Education commission and in France by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI) as well as by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR). Important zones identified for 2016 are Health, Energy, and Education as well.

The committee collectively approved nine joint research proposals for sponsoring in three priority regions. Pakistani universities that have acquired the grant are University of Karachi, Balochistan University of Information and Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences Quetta, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Lahore, Hazara University of Mansehra, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, University of Education Lahore, FAST-NU Lahore, as well as Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
