Lahore, Under the New School Program, Punjab Education Foundation a total of 11,000 children would be facilitated, PEF Director Waqar Azeem said.
The development phase five of the New School Program will facilitate the students to continue schooling with low income households. The declaration was made in a ceremony organized to distribute grants to new school partners of PEF. The new phase will be comprised on the partnership of 125 private schools.
"The phase had been successfully initiated in Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Vehari, Faisalabad, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar districts"
Azeem said.
The New School Program had provided access to free education for 74,000 children in Punjab. The development of NSP aims to enhance the access to education to 85,000 children. A great number of partner schools would take part in the program, Azeem said. The phase would increase the ratio of partner schools to 517.
PEEF is established to provide scholarships to talented and needy students for chasing quality education with equal opportunities. The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund endeavors to bring best educational prospects to the less privileged and talented youth of Punjab, and bring them at par with the most fortunate ones This endowment fund was initially established with of Rs. 2 billion, which has now been raised to Rs. 8 billion.
The Govt. of the Punjab has pledged to raise the endowment fund to Rs. 10 billion in the next 2-3 years. Only investment proceeds out of this fund are utilized for the award of scholarships.
