A recently issued report on software piracy rates round about the world has found out that Pakistan has the second highest piracy rates in Asia Pacific.

 


Almost 84% of software installed in Pakistan in 2015 was unlicensed and it is the second highest piracy rates in Asia Pacific.


The international piracy average was reported to be approximately 39%, adding up to 52 billion dollars in software costs however that was really nothing as compared to the extraordinarily high piracy rates in Asia Pacific region.

As per the report, total 61 percent of all the software’s that were installed in 2015 in Asian-Pacific region was unlicensed. In the list of culprit, Bangladesh is at the top with piracy rate of 86%, followed enough closely by Pakistan and Indonesia at 84% both.

Software Piracy ratio in Pakistan

Along with 84 percent of all software being unlicensed, the cost in Pakistan unbelievably amounted to $276 million. Undoubtedly, this figure is alarming however there is some progress compared to the piracy statistics from 2013 (85 percent) and 2011 (86 percent) respectively.

The report named as “Seizing Opportunity through License Compliance” is collected by The Software Alliance, a trade group established by Microsoft consisting of top software companies in the entire world.

This trade group conduct surveys after a one year gap and the report itself is gathered from a survey of 22,000 computer consumers and 2,000 IT decision-makers and involves business, operating system, gaming as well as the security software.

Other Countries Software Piracy ratio

India fairs much better along with the piracy rate of almost 58 percent.

US endure to be on top with only 17% rate of piracy however even that small ratio cost more than 9 billion dollars in marketable value.
