Karachi, Hundreds of students from University of Karachi concerned for the ridiculous violence and the loss of numerous lives in the city organized a peace walk on Wednesday afternoon. Students protested against anarchy in Karachi and gathered at the Azaadi Chowk and started marching towards the Silver Jubilee gate, which is one of the main entrances to the university.
One of the representing students echoed the feelings of the majority of Karachi’s citizens when she said it was the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the city and to take action against the criminals behind the violence and students took to the streets to protest against the volatile security situation. Other students also mourned the fact that law implementing agencies failed to save precious lives in the city.
The students stopped at one of the main gates of NED University, holding national flags and posters, where students from the institute joined them. Together, all they vocalized pro-Karachi and pro-Pakistan slogans and demanded that the government put an end to terrorism as well as target killings in the city. “We want peace in Karachi”, “Stop killings of innocent people”, “Human lives are valuable don’t waste it like that”, “We are peaceful youngsters of the city” were some of the slogans written on the posters.
A student from NED commended the civil society and people of different walks to come forward and stage a peaceful protest against the chaos in Karachi. “We are students of public run universities and standing here for a cause without asking or arguing about political backgrounds and affiliations of other students,” he added. Political and religious parties did not interfered in this march. Students also sung national anthem at the end of the walk in front of the NED gate.
