Islamabad, The COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) is conducting international Conference on “Frontiers of Mathematics and Statistics” from November 30 to December 2.
The main purpose of this conference is assembling of researchers working in different areas of mathematical sciences that will increase interactions and collaborations.
An official said it would assist the researchers working in mathematics and statistics to exchange their ideas about recent developments in the area of mathematical sciences. CIIT started its journey in 1998, and established its first campus at Islamabad in April 1998.
In August 2000, in recognition of CIIT’s achievements, the Federal Government granted it the status of a Degree Awarding Institute (DAI) through promulgation of its charter. The main campus of CIIT is situated in Islamabad while six other fully functional campuses at Lahore, Abbottabad, Wah, Attock, Sahiwal and Vehari, while six more campuses at Gujrat, Kotli, Karachi, Larkana, Quetta, and Peshawar are in the works. The CIIT is also exploring opportunity for opening an overseas campus in the Gulf region.
The CIIT is now scheduled for up gradation as a university by the name of ‘Comsats University’ through an Act of the Parliament.
The CIIT aims to search for truth through advancement of learning and extending the frontiers of knowledge; to the sharing of this knowledge through education in academically diverse disciplines; and to the application of this knowledge to benefit the people of Pakistan, in particular, and the Muslim Ummah and the world, in general.
CIIT has been consistently ranked at number seven among all the institutions of higher education numbering more than 134 in the country since 2006 until 2009, as notified by HEC, based on Research output in peer-reviewed journals indexed by Thomson-Reuters, the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI), Web of Knowledge, USA CIIT. It further improved its position and rose to number six during 2010.
