Islamabad: The working teachers can now apply for an in-service program courtesy of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and USAID.

The main objective of this program is to provide training that can assist the teachers in enhancing their skills and knowledge during their job with the help of advance teaching practices.

For this purpose almost 21 Faculty of Education buildings have been established. Up gradation of all provincial colleges have been done plus approximately 60 PhD and Masters Scholarships have also being provided for the program.

This statement was given by Higher Education Commission consultant Dr. Mahmood-ul-Hasan Butt, recently at the meeting of representatives of Federal and Provincial Public Service Commissions and Provincial Secretaries of higher education.

The meeting emphasizes on the need of supporting teacher education in Pakistan along with the professional degree levels. Dr. Mahmood also stressed the need to combine new knowledge along with the newly-introduced ADE and B.Ed programmes.

Old programs such as PTC, CT, Diploma in Education, and 1-year B.Ed will be replaced along with four-year B.Ed (Honours) programme based on 140-142 credit hours and a two-year Associate Degree in Education of 68 credit hours. It was also discussed in the roadmap for phasing out old programmes.
