Government announces free Wi-Fi facility for residents of Multan

The district management for Multan has announced that they will be providing free Wi-Fi to the residents of city.

The free WiFi facility would be available from first week of November.

As per an official, 30 devices have been installed at different locations in the city.

These locations include Ghanta Ghar, Damdama, Art Council, Kachehri as well as at various hospitals. The number of people expected to be able to connect to free Wi-Fi Hotspot are in thousands.

This is the most long-awaited news and indicates how the management of Multan is facing the challenges of the 21st century.

Though, it remains to be seen how the public will make use of these assets, and whether the internet infrastructure is installed will be used or misused.

A necessity at hospitals or museums

Having Wi-Fi available at hospitals, museums, and at other public places is a must for any city. This also means that the management of the city needs to ensure high bandwidth connections along with the limits on data allocated to every device for usage. Only then you can safely make Wi-Fi available at all public places.

Chances of Other Cities Getting Free Wi-Fi

We have yet to see any other city execute similar public Wi-Fi facilities. The larger cities such as Lahore and Karachi might take some time for this.

Twin cities Islamabad/Rawalpindi can see this service being available soon, obviously depending on the management of the city.

The internet speeds/quality available at these Wi-Fi spots in Multan is still not known. We can only see how good it is when it becomes available in the first week of November.
