Karachi: (Press Release) Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) announced the results for Secondary and Higher Secondary School Certificates for May 2015 examination session yesterday.

This year, AKU-EB assessed SSC and HSSC students in 94 subjects at 29 centers in 24 cities across Pakistan.

“Congratulations to all the candidates who worked hard in preparing for the exams. The students who have successfully passed AKU-EB examinations demonstrate higher-order cognitive skills and the ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills,” said Dr Shehzad Jeeva, Director, AKU-EB.

The overall passing rate for SSC Part I was 88.4% with 45% of the candidates scoring A Grade and above. Meanwhile, the overall passing rate for SSC Part II was 90.6% with 54.5% of the candidates obtaining A Grade and above. Among the successful candidates Mariam Sajjad from P.E.C.H.S Girls’ School scored 94.9% and secured the first position for SSC. “AKU-EB encourages conceptual learning and we have to give short answers based on our concepts so there is no rote learning at all. The concept based learning approach and transparency in the entire examination process makes AKU-EB unique. For HSSC examinations, I plan to take admissions in Pre-Medical and will continue my studies with AKU-EB,” shared Mariam.  She also clinched the first position in elective subjects of Science group.

Second SSC position holder Asifa Maqbool, also from P.E.C.H.S Girls School obtained 93.18%. She shared, “I am very excited and feel at the top of the world right now. Ever since I came into Grade Nine I have been working very hard and dreamt about securing a top position. Initially, I thought that AKU-EB examinations will be difficult but actually they are not. We just have to follow the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), which makes the exam preparation easier. My teachers and parents have been very supportive of me and have always motivated me with no pressures. I think AKU-EB encourages creativity; the SLOs are designed towards the practical side of life which we can also apply in our daily routine.”

Ms Seema Malik, Principal, P.E.C.H.S School said, “We have always believed in active learning. A lot of emphasis is made on understanding and ‘plan-do-review’ approach. Aga Khan University Examination Board assesses students in a similar manner. Students who have achieved the positions did not take any tuitions and this is a hall mark of our quality education.”

Uzma Dur-re-Sameen from Maryam Siddiqa Girls Higher Secondary School scored overall third position in SSC examination. Anoosha from Habib Girls School secured the first position in elective subjects of Humanities group.

“I am delighted to hear about Uzma's brilliant performance. No doubt it’s due to her hard work and sheer commitment of all teachers that Maryam Saddiqa School Achieved this remarkable distinction,” shared Shabana Nuzhat, Principal, Maryam Siddiqa Girls Higher Secondary School.

Followed by the SSC results, both first and second positions in HSSC examination were secured by girls from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karimabad, Karachi. Fatema Quaid Johar did not only clinched the overall first position in HSSC examination with 93.45% but also topped in the elective subjects of Pre-Engineering group. “I am a student of AKU-EB since SSC examinations. When I compare myself to the students of other boards, I feel much more confident since I have experienced concept base learning as a student of AKU-EB. The skills developed through AKU-EB system have equipped me to understand things in a better and analytical way. This will help me excel in every field life. I plan to continue my studies in the field of Computer Engineering any I am very thankful to my parents and teachers for their endless support and encouragement,” commented Fatema.

The second position holder for HSSC examination, Marium Zehra scored 91.45%. She commented, “I always studied hard and hard work always pays off. At AKU-EB you get what you deserve. The student learning outcomes provide us guidelines and a frame work to study and research about topics which helps us in developing and clearing our concepts.”

It provides confidence to the students to exhibit the art of life long learning and become successful in higher education and their professional life,” said Shahina Ali Raza, Principal, Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karimabad, Karachi.

Faiza Jamal from Habib Girls School secured the overall third position in HSSC examination and she also stood first in Pre-Medical elective subjects.  

“I am delighted at the excellent results achieved by Habib Girls’ School in HSSC and SSC Examinations. The system of examination is transparent and fair it thus gives us the confidence that grades and position are declared on merit and well deserved. HSSC group-wise position holders for elective subjects in Commerce, Humanities, General Science and Pre-Engineering includes Muneeba Hamid from Habib Girls School Karachi, Ramsha Abdul Karim from Habib Girls School Karachi, Rajnesh Roop Chand from St. Bonaventures High School Hyderabad, and Hissam Karim from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karimabad, Karachi respectively

This year passing rate for HSSC Part I examination was 88.3% with 35.2% of the candidates scoring A Grade and above. The passing rate for HSSC Part II examination was 92.2% with 46.2% of the candidates obtaining A Grade and above.
