2 days’ workshop, organized at the Government College University Lahore under the supervision of its Geography Department and Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), while the main objective of organizing the workshop was to enriching the abilities of the participants in modern modeling, data acquisition as well as management techniques by way of remote sensing. Geographty department incharge of GCU, Lahore Dr. Ali Iqtidar Mirza during his address in front of the audience, said that current social and economic development was even based on the communication of data along with the perfect frequency. He also said that space technology was being utilized for the nonstop monitoring of main crops, their yield and also for their production. That’s why, it certifies food security and it also helps in the predication of drought and floods.

Well known scientists as well as geologists while addressing a workshop on “remote sensing” said that “Space technology is the future while its application has become too much important even in social sciences”.

By merging the space technology in urban development, the record of use land as well as the development of cities can be upgraded, recreational and rural area can be planned, and transport as well as the transportation can be developed. In future, the advanced cities could be planned by utilizing the space technology, Dr. Mirza said, during his address also said that the  study of climate change on earth was not possible without space technology. 

Vice Chancellor of Government College University, Lahore Prof. Hassan Amir Shah emphasized on the strong partnership between universities and research and technology development organizations such as SUPARCO, claiming that it assist the researchers as well as the aspirants in the attainment of latest and perfect data for research. While addressing he said that these workshops were correspondingly important for experts and for the students because these workshops gave them the opportunity to learn about the advanced research and techniques in their main subject.

General Manager of SUPARCO Lahore, Dr. Arifa Lodhi highlighted that SUPARCO in association along with the top leading universities of the country involving GCU for development of space science and technology in the country. 

The senior staff and other staff members from Pakistan Metrology Department Lahore Flood Forecasting Division, University of the Punjab, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Kinnaird College lahore, GCU Faisalabad, FC University Lahore, University of Sargodha (UOS) and COMSTAS took part in the workshop that was lasted on more than 9 technical sessions.

Director of Flood Forecasting Center Lahore, Muhammad Raiz Khan, Head of Karachi University Geography Department Prof. Dr. Jamil Hassan Kazmi, GIS Center faculty member of PU Hamid Chaudhry, Hassan Saqib from Met Office Radar Department, Assistant Director of Punjab Mines and Mineral Department Rizwan Saqibb as well as the managers of SUPARCO Shoaib Shafique and Shaista Ejaz also addressed the audiences of the workshop.
