Dr Umer Saif, who has been recently removed by PTI government from chairmanship of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), has still shown his desire to server his homeland Pakistan. He is an expert IT professional and renowned computer scientist. He is responsible for launching digitalization projects of Police Department and land records for Govt. of Punjab.

He is currently serving as Vice Chancellor of Lahore’s Information Technology University (ITU). He was invited by acclaimed new channel Geo news for an interview, where he shared his future plans and told about his achievements during his tenure as chairperson of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). He said, Seven years is a long time. PITB came into existence in 1999 and since the time I was made its chairman in 2011, I have strived for its betterment.”

He further said, ’ I still want to work in the country. I had come here after 11 years when I was appointed the chairman of PITB and I strongly wish to serve my homeland now as well and I joined PITB in 2011 and have worked for seven years with five governments. Introducing and implementing sweeping reforms is a matter of deep governance which you need to perform in close association, support and political will of the government. From what I believe, the government wants to bring its own people, which I totally understand and respect.”

The field of IT in Pakistan is in process of growth and it has raised a lot in recent years. The short duration courses related to IT have been introduced in vocational and training institutes as well. The field of IT in Pakistan is regulated by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Pakistan has over 20 million internet users and it is calculated as the 27th largest internet using nation of the world. Pakistan ranks at 5th position for maximum numbers of freelancers and IT professionals. Former government of Punjab distributed laptops to students in several colleges and Universities of Punjab for promotion of IT in Pakistan.

The Government of Pakistan has planned to spend Rs. 4.6 billion for establishment projects of E-Government, Human Resource and Infrastructure projects. Software application development is highest growing field of IT; government is planning to establish institutes offering diplomas and short courses for software development of mobile applications and computer applications. Software engineers are also one the highly paid professionals in the world. The availability of Jobs related to software development are also very high around the world.
