Dr Attaur Rahman launches Pakistan’s first video book for innovative education

Karachi: The patron-in-chief of University of Karachi’s (KU) International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Prof Dr Attaur Rahman, has recorded the first organic chemistry video book of Pakistan that is completely without manuscript.

The senior representative of ICCBS said that Dr Rahman, together with his assistant Syeda Sadia Khatoon, recorded the book entitled as “Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry: A Compendium of Video Lectures”, which is the first video book of its sort in Pakistan.

He further said that this video book is organized in the form of a standard text book however, rather than having text, this book contains video links to almost 300 lectures by prominent authorities from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University as well as by University of California.

While commenting on his novel contribution, Dr Rahman explained:

To address this issue, he, together with Khatoon, prepared this video book that can be a really powerful tool to convey high quality education, he said.

He further said while adding that this video will be distributed free of cost.

French Nobel Laureate Prof Jean-Marie Lehn, in his introduction in the video book, said what is predominantly useful regarding this effort is that the materials have been carefully screened by the authors to certify quality and then organized to cover an extensive range of topics.

He furthermore added that the arrangement of the material in the setup of a standard book, along with chapters and sections covering the video links within them, should make it particularly attractive to the users.

This collection of 300 lectures should be a beneficial source of learning for aspirants of organic chemistry and it also represents a very valuable effort in series along with the evolution of teaching and knowledge transfer methodologies, he said.

The vice chancellor of University of Karachi Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser and ICCBS director Prof Dr Iqbal Choudhary also acknowledged Dr Rahman on the launch of his book.
