Department of Journalism for Only Girls Established in Women University, Swabi

The recently established Women University, Swabi has made a rapid development in its academic faculties. Now the University has established another department, especially for girls only. The journalism and mass communication department will facilitate girls to acquire courses of print media and electronic media.

The founder and VC of Women University, Swabi said, “I had taken great interest in the establishment of law and journalism departments. I can proudly say the idea has worked. We have provided a platform to the young girls, the girls in Swabi are very talented but they require a platform. The Women University Swabi has provided them an opportunity to display their talent”.

The University already has departments of Art, Design & Cultural Studies, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, English language & literature, Economics, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics, Urdu, Computer Science, Statistics, Law, Physics and Social Work. The Higher education system in Swabi has been upgraded recently; there was no public university in Swabi, KPK until 2012. The district is consisted of approximately 1,624,616 populations.

The subject of journalism and mass communication is most neglected one in the district for girls. The introduction of journalism department will open new horizons in the profession for girl students of the University. One of faculty member of the newly established journalism department said, “These four girls are brilliant as they have come forward and got admission in journalism department. We are proud of them.”

During the third Senate meeting with VC of Women University, Swabi, the Governor of KPK has announced that all the universities of KPK should justify their budget before presenting it in the Senate meeting for approval. He was chairing the meeting with VC Dr Khanzadi Fatima Khattak at Governor House.

He further said during the briefing in the meeting that any University breaking the rules of conduct will be punished severely. He warned the administration of Universities from making illegal and non merit appointments. The jobs should be provided according to criteria of merit and eligibility. The budget of the Universities must be audited before presentation in the Senate, he insisted.

On academic front, Governor of KPK Shah Farman said that the Universities must focus on character building of students along with nourishing their academic skills. Character building is an important part of education. The VC of Women University Swabi, Dr Khanzadi Fatima Khattak, shared details of under construction departments of the University to the senate. She reported the Senate about the academic and administrative progress details of the University.

The senate approved budget of Women University, Swabi, for current fiscal year, in this meeting held on Monday, at Governor House Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa. The attendants of the meeting were the Principal Secretary to Governor Nizamud Din, Higher Education Department Secretary Manzoor Ahmad and Vice Chancellor of Women University, Swabi Dr Khanzadi Fatima Khattak. The advancements and progress the University has made in its short period of establishment is truly commendable and worth appreciation.
