Karachi: Taking notice of excess admission fee being charged by the colleges, education minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar instructed on Monday the director-general (DG) of colleges Nasir Ansar to take a strict action against the educational institutes as well as principals found involved in the transgression.

The education minister has also ordered the respondent principals to return the excessive fee to the aspirants within a week and provide the list of those students to the colleges DG.

In a statement issued on Monday, he said that the admission fee for science and commerce groups for first and second year is Rs 550/-, for general group it is Rs 500/- whereas the admission form charges are Rs 10/-.

Dahar furthermore added that it had come into his notice that some institutes are also selling uniforms and charging more money, which they are not permitted to. The minister requested the parents as well as the students not to pay additional fee and if they face any case of this kind, they should make a complaint to the colleges DG. 

He also warned the principals not to go beyond the set fee structure otherwise strict action will be taken against them, which can be suspension or the termination from service.

In the meantime, the colleges DG said that checking teams have been formed crosswise the province to keep an eye on the admissions procedure as well as to take action against those colleges that are not following the fee structure.
