Hyderabad, Pir Mazharul Haq Sindh Minister for Education has said that 14,000 teachers will soon be appointed strictly on merit basis for three year tenure and their services will later be regularized in light of their performance. After distributing appointment letters for the post of lecturers, he said that the government was strictly following a policy of merit in order to bring about reforms in the education department.
He said the government had abolished and discouraged “sifarish” culture. The policy of ad hocism had greatly harmed the cause of education, he said.
Now lecturers were being appointed under the recommendations of the Sindh Public Service Commission. Standard of education had greatly improved under the present government, he said, adding the civil society and media to point out any flaws in the education sector.
In rural areas, education is seriously affected by inadequacy of teachers and political interference while teachers mostly remained absent from duties. Strict action would be taken against negligent teachers and educational standards would be improved by efforts.
District government had destroyed the education system; it should handed over to the provincial government. Under the proposed reforms, five schools in each union council were being merged into one group and a guide would be appointed to oversee standard of education in these schools, he further said.
