Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad and Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan will jointly organize a national conference in the beginning of next month to prepare a national policy on the open distance learning (ODL) system.

 This type of strategy is direly required as some other institutions have also come up to educate the people via open distance learning. VICE chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui during reviewing the arrangements of the conference said that AIOU being the forerunner as well as the first in Asia following this style of education wishes to play a vital role in this connection. The representatives of the institutions' from the entire country and an expert on ODL from Commonwealth, Canada have been invited to attend this conference.

The planned strategy will also assist to institutionalize the ODL as well as promote coordination and exchanges between the related institutes to certify the quality of education and deliver the possible services to the aspirants. Dr. Siddiqui added moreover said that the AIOU will offer its academic and professional support for the purpose.

He said that they required coping along with the latest changes in ODL system, with a better strategy and corresponding approach. The references of the conference will be presented to the federal government for the approval and for the implementation as well.
