Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

 
Physical therapy is an ever growing profession and upcoming as most desirable health profession in 21st century. Physical therapists are health care professionals working to improve, maintain and restore movement potential. They strive to ensure optimal physical functioning and quality life for individuals of all age groups. Physical therapist serves to ensure health, wellness and fitness for the whole society in domains of habilitation and rehabilitation.
 

The scope of physical therapy includes direct patient / client care and extends with research work, public health strategies, leadership, management, counseling, supervision and work delegation, developing health care policies and teaching.


According to APTA, Doctor of physical therapy (DPT) will be the minimum required qualification for all entry-level physical therapist education programs from 2016. The college offers four years BS (honors) Medical Laboratory Technology course. 
 

Medical Laboratory Technologists are professionals who have the technical expertise necessary to perform a wide variety of routine and specialized tests on patient specimens to help the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.


 - To provide advanced and specific training to students in different specialties of laboratory medicine.

 - To train students in the operation of laboratory instruments and able to recognize failures and take appropriate actions.

 - To train the students in biomedical research methodology, search for biomedical science literature, interpretation of research data and in the written and oral presentation of scientific research.

 - These professionals practice in hospital laboratories, private medical laboratories, public health laboratories, government laboratories, research and educational institutions.

BS  Radiography & Imaging Technology (RIT)

 
Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography) is the practice of taking medical images of patients’ internal body parts which are often used to confirm or exclude a medical diagnosis, to advice on the treatment of an illness or to monitor patient progress. It evolves world of medicine, high technology Imaging has become multi-faceted, both in modalities and operationally.  
 
MIT (Radiology 4 Years)
 
Medical Imaging Technology (Radiology) is four years HEC recognized degree program. It prepares a cadre of health technologists who can effectively assist senior health professionals in the delivery of quality health care and services. MIT professionals would render their service in the field health care delivery system from the primary to the tertiary level. It introduces and imparts standard technical education with new modern techniques, within the fields of Medical Imaging Technology (Radiology), to replace the conventional methods of pre-service training. 
 
BS Optometry and Orthoptics
 
The aim of the 4 years degree program in Optometry and Orthoptics is to equip the students with relevant professional knowledge, skills, techniques and ethical values to enable them to apply their acquired expertise at a level between the doctors and the patient for efficient health service delivery.
 

After completing this course they are able to examine patients' eyes, test their sight, give advice on visual problems and prescribe and fit spectacles or contact lenses as when needed. They are trained to recognize diseases of the eye, such as glaucoma and cataract, as well as general health conditions such as diabetes. They refer patients to medical practitioners when necessary, as well as sometimes sharing the care of patients with chronic conditions. Most of these activities involve the use of specialist equipment. 


 

As an Orthoptist they can provide diagnostic and treatment services for people with vision defects involving incorrect eye movements and positions, such as ‘lazy eye’ or amblyopia, binocular vision and ‘squinting’ or strabismus. They use complex testing equipment to diagnose such defects and provide appropriate advice and treatment options, such as corrective surgery, visual aids or exercises and tips on things like lighting and viewing distances. They can work in high street practices which may be independent or part of a regional or national chain. A smaller number work in hospitals alongside other healthcare professionals such as doctors, in academic settings doing research and/or teaching, and also in the optical manufacturing industry.
 
BS  Speech and Language Therapy
 
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.
 
Careers in Speech-Language Pathology
 
SLPs work with the full range of human communication and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages. SLPs:
 

 - Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.

 - Treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.

BS Operation Theatre Technology

 
An Operation Theatre Technologist is an allied health professional who works as an essential part of the surgical team to ensure that the operative procedure is conducted under optimal conditions. Surgical team members function in two capacities – non-sterile and sterile. The non-sterile team members are the circulator and the anesthesia provider. Sterile team members are the surgeon, the surgical assistant, and the Operation Theatre Technologist in the scrub role.
 
Job Description of an Operation Theatre Technologist
 
Operation Theatre Technologists assist surgeons and other medical professionals in hospital operating rooms and similar environments. Chiefly, they prepare patients, rooms and equipment for pending surgical procedures. They also assist during those procedures as part of a team of operating room professionals.
 
Job Duties
 
In preparing operating rooms, Operation Theatre Technologists ensure that all of the equipment needed for the procedure is properly disinfected and assembled. They also check that the equipment is in working order. They place sterile solutions in areas where they can be easily reached by doctors.
 
To prepare patients for surgery, Operation Theatre Technologists may clean, shave and disinfect the areas of a patient's body that will be operated on. They then move patients to the OR and position them on the operating table, using sterile surgical drapes to cover them. Monitoring patients' vital signs and observing their status is another job responsibility of an Operation Theatre Technologist.
 
During surgery, Operation Theatre Technologists pass sterile surgical equipment, such as scalpels and forceps, to surgeons. They also might cut sutures, keep track of items like sponges and needles, operate lights and help dress a patient's wounds. Additionally, Operation theatre Technologists are sometimes responsible for the preparation and disposal of lab specimens.
