40 more Pakistani students head to US for further studies

Karachi: United States Consul General in Karachi Brian Heath on Wednesday greeted home 33 Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES) aspirants from Sindh and Balochistan who just returned from one year study programmes in the US.

He also gave his best wishes to the 40 students who will soon leave the country for the same programmes in US.

Consul General Heath said that:

“The YES programme, by joining Pakistani and American students in an environment that promotes shared experiences and open dialogue, is at the heart of what we try to do via our exchange and cultural programs”.

Further he said that:

“There is no effective way to promote friendship as well as understanding than through programs such as YES, which permits the young Pakistanis to discover more about themselves, the United States, as well as the world while also serving as ambassadors of Pakistan.”

Volunteerism is a big part of the YES program, he added.

“We believe that service to one’s community and country is necessary to make societies strong. Now, that you have returned home, I expect from you that you take your experiences and share them with your family as well as with community and that you continue to be active in community service projects here in Pakistan.”

The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program sponsored by the US state department offer scholarships for secondary school students aged 15 between 17 who choose to spend up to one academic year in US.

The US State Department has funded the Youth-Exchange Study Program since 2003. Through this programme, over 900 Pakistani young people have had the chance to spend a year of high school in the US, living along with American families.
