3,875 students get scholarships worth Rs 1.85 billion

Islamabad, The scholarships worth of Rs 1.85 billion have been awarded to as many as 3,875 students in ICT by Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) R&D Fund. The scholarships will be awarded to needy students of rural areas.  Till now the funds worth of Rs 1.2 billion have been spent on 86 Research and Development (R&D) projects.

According to information, among these projects around 10 projects have won different national and international awards, four patents filed and 189 publications released by several academia and industry organizations and researchers.

Meanwhile, the research and development worldwide software chief of Microsoft Corporation USA has permitted a draft for award of research funding for development of SoftUPS, deferred by Dr. Affan Syed, Assistant Professor, National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NU-FAST), Islamabad and it will begin  next month.

The SoftUPS solution forms on a current technology established by MSR called HomeOS. It will be aimed to provide an OS like concept for smart Homes. The solution is making and developing a smart-home application that exchanges recently UPS-based solutions to load-shedding having more ICT-inspired, greener, lower-cost, and more efficient solution, due to this it has got the name of “SoftUPS”.

National ICT, R&D Fund, an association of Ministry of IT and got the fund by (R&D) influences all telecom operators and it has given assistance to Dr. Affan Syed and his team for research projects.

Besides, Karachi University has announced the list of eligible candidates for the award of HEC Need Based Scholarship. The suggested candidates are advised to cautiously read their details (Name, Father Name, Class, Department and CNIC number). If they found any ambiguity they can report to the office of the undersigned till June 20, 2013. All the eligible candidates can get Pre-Registration form from the office of the undersigned from June 17, 2013 to June 20, 2013 between 09:00am to 01:00pm and submit the form with all the required documents up to June21, 2013. All eligible students can open their Bank Accounts at UBL, University of Karachi Campus, Branch till June 20, 2013.
