Mirpur Education Sponsorship Program (MESP)

Introduction

MESP stands for Mirpur Education Sponsorship Program and it is a voluntary organization striving to provide quality education to poor and deserving segments of the society. It is an established fact that the wealth of a nation is not only comprised of its natural resources but its intellectual property. The strength and prosperity of most nations is founded on the access and the quality of the education provided to their youth as it is widely recognized that a nation’s most vital asset is its well-educated youth.

Let us remember that the first word that Almighty Allah revealed to our Prophet (SAWW) was “Iqraa” read. It shows that quest for knowledge and learning was important and was given priority over all other needs of mankind.

Generally speaking a large number of boys and girls are denied access to education due to their financial hardships, therefore, MESP was set up to support deserving and talented students at both school and college levels so that in due time they become a vital component of the nation’s vanguard for imparting knowledge and providing leadership in diverse fields.

History

MESP started in July 2007 with the aim that few deserving and talented students from one of the state run schools will be selected and be fully supported. From only one school and a few students, MESP prospered with the passage of time and now, Allhamdulillah, 472 male and female students are benefiting from this sponsorship in 14 different schools and colleges.

Our aim is to support them with their education and ultimately create a situation, where every possible effort is made to sponsor all those children who cannot study due to their financial hardships or in other words, our mission is to:

“make education accessible to talented boys and girls belonging to poor sections of the society”

It is recognized that the dimensions of the problem are gigantic and our efforts will constitute only a tiny step in the direction of the ultimate mission. However we acknowledge that a thousand mile journey begins with a small first step. It is our hope and prayer that efforts initiated by MESP will find an echo in the hearts of informed members of society, who will not only support the present endeavor but will also, with Almighty Allah’s blessings, replicate these efforts themselves.

Activities

At present MESP is sponsoring 472 male and female students in 14 different schools and colleges with their educational requirements, i.e. school fees, complete uniform including shoes, books and stationary etc. All students are required to attain 50% marks in their final exams to secure their sponsorship. Students with less than 50% marks in final exams will lose their sponsorship and be replaced by other deserving and talented ones.
