International Scholarship
University of Bath Scholarships for International Students

How
many scholarships are there?
There are 40 scholarships for undergraduate students and 40 for
postgraduate students.
Who are
the scholarships for?
Any international students (and any students from the Channel
Islands or Isle of Man) who are paying overseas fees and who are
applying for a full-time undergraduate or masters course for
September 2007. The scholarships are awarded on academic merit.
How
much is each scholarship?
Each one is worth £3000 and will be in the form of a discount in
tuition fees. The scholarships are for one year only. Undergraduate
students will receive the full £3000 scholarship in the first year
of their course.
How
do I apply?
You do not need to make a separate application. You will be
considered automatically. The scholarships are awarded on academic
merit and to assess this we will use your UCAS form (for
undergraduate students) and your course application forms (for
masters students).
Do
I need to have firmly accepted an offer from Bath in order to be
considered for a scholarship?
No. We will automatically consider all students holding offers for a
scholarship award except for students who have already listed us
with UCAS as their insurance choice. In other words, we will
consider you if you a) are still undecided about our offer or b)
have firmly accepted Bath.
Of course, you will ultimately need to accept our offer firmly in
order to enrol at Bath and receive your scholarship and certificate!
What
happens if I have a conditional offer?
If you have a conditional offer, then of course any scholarship
offer will also be conditional until you have achieved the grades
that you need for entry to Bath.
Can I
have more than one scholarship?
If you already have a partial scholarship from another organisation
for part of your tuition fees, you can combine this scholarship with
a University of Bath one provided that it does not equal more
than the cost of your tuition fees.
However, we will not give a University of Bath scholarship to
anyone who already has a full award (from another organisation) to
pay for their tuition fees.
What
happens if my financial situation changes?
If your financial situation changes, then the University reserves
the right to reconsider the award. For example: in the case that you
were awarded a full fee scholarship from another organisation after
the University of Bath had shortlisted you for its own scholarship,
you would no longer be eligible for a University of Bath
scholarship.
When do I
find out the results?
We will notify all the successful candidates by 31 August 2007 at
the latest. However, it is likely that individual departments may
choose to inform successful candidates before this date. You will
receive a certificate at an awards ceremony when you arrive at the
University.
Other
types of financial assistance available
The best advice is to start planning your finances early and
to check out what is available in your own country as well as the
UK. In general, there is much more support for post-graduate study,
particularly at research level, than for undergraduate study but it
is always worth asking an individual department of the university if
they have any scholarships.
If you are a research student, you will first need a formal offer
of admission to the University of Bath before you apply for funding.
You also need to apply early as many scholarships will be allocated
by April. We have 9 fully-funded PhD studentships through the
Overseas Research Student (ORS) scheme which cover tuition and
living costs. We also have some partial scholarships. To find out
more about ORS and other research funding please contact the Graduate
Office.
