Subjects and Syllabus for Combined Competitive Examination
(Provincial
Management Service)
1.
The written examination shall include five compulsory subjects. A
candidate shall take all five compulsory subjects. There are no optional
subjects.
2.
A candidate shall answer the papers in English unless otherwise directed
except that he/she may answer the papers of Pakistan Studies and Islamic
Studies in either Urdu or English.
3.
Time allowed for each paper shall be three hours.
4. The question papers may be descriptive (subjective)
type or multiple choice questions (objective) type or a combination
of the both.
5. The compulsory and optional subjects and maximum
marks allocated to each subject shall be as shown below:-

The minimum standard for the papers will be of graduate level.
* Non Muslim candidates have the option either to take Islamic Studies
as one of the subjects or otherwise Pakistan Studies will be treated
of 200 marks in their case.
Important Notes:
(a). No candidate shall be summoned for Viva Voce
and Psychological Tests unless he/she has obtained, at least, 33 percent
marks in each individual written paper and 50 per cent marks in the
aggregate of the written portion of the examination. No candidate
shall be considered to have qualified in the examination unless he/she
also obtains 50 percent marks in Viva Voce and Psychological Test.
Failure in or absence from Viva Voce and Psychological Tests shall
mean that the candidate has failed to qualify for appointment and
his/her name will not be included in the merit list.
(b).
Names of candidates who qualify shall be arranged in order of merit
according to the aggregate marks obtained at the examination.
(c).
Candidate's choice of post/service in the order of priority shall
be obtained at the time of Psychological Test and this choice shall
be final.
(d). In the event of a tie, the order of merit shall
be determined in accordance with the highest marks in the interview.
In case where interview marks are also equal the candidate elder in
age will be placed higher in merit list.

SYLLABUS
1. ENGLISH including Essay (Subjective)
Essay, Precis, Urdu to English Translation.
English Grammar, Fill in the blanks, Pair
of words, Use of idioms.
2. URDU including Essay (Subjective)
Essay, Precis, English to Urdu Translation.
Urdu Grammar, Fill in the blanks, use of
idioms & proverbs, Names of the writers/authors of the
famous books, Explanation of the famous poetic lines.
3. PAKISTAN STUDIES
a). Ideology of Pakistan in Historical perspective,
Pakistan Movement.
b). Establishment of Pakistan, Initial problems -
important events and issues.
c). Political and constitutional developments from
1947 to date.
d). Pakistan's economy planning & economic development.
e). Pakistan's foreign policy & external affairs.
f). Pakistan's internal environment, demography,
geography, agriculture, industry, health, education, public administration
with special reference to Punjab Province.
4. ISLAMIC STUDIES
a). Fundamental Beliefs and Practices of Islam.
b). Basic Problems of Human Life and their Solutions.
c). Social System in Islam.
d). Morality in Islam : Relationship of morality
and Faith, Islamic Principles and
methods of character-building.
e). Islam & comparative study of other religions.
5. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
This paper is intended to test the candidate's knowledge of current
world affairs and also of broad facts of historical, political, geographical
and economic importance. A section will be included to test the candidate's
knowledge and understanding of matters of every day observation and
experience in the scientific aspect significant developments in science
and technology.
6.PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST AND VIVA VOCE
Candidates who qualify the written portion of the examination shall
be called for the Psychological and Viva Voce tests, as under:-
(a). Psychological Test comprises of paper and pencil
test and group tasks. Such tests are designed to assess abilities,
attitude and personality characteristics of the candidates with special
regards to their aptitude for the civil services. Candidate's performance
in psychological assessment will form the part of his/her over all
performance.
(b). Each candidate will be interviewed by a Board.
He/She will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The
object of the interview is to assess his/her suitability for the service
for which he/she is a candidate and in framing their assessment the
Board will attach particular importance to the moral and ethical qualities
of the candidates, his/her intelligence and alertness of mind, vigour
and strength of character and his/her potential qualities of leadership.
The Board will also take into consideration his/her extra-curricular
activities such as sports, hobbies etc. and their impact on his/her
personality and character.
